Film Review of the Week: The Mitchells vs. the Machines

On the lookout for a quality film to watch with the kids? Then you should think about trying out our Film Review of the Week. This week, we want to focus on The Mitchells vs. the Machines, a hilarious animated sci-fi comedy for everyone.

What is The Mitchells vs. the Machines?

When you want to find a good movie to watch with the family, then we recommend that you take a look at The Mitchells vs. the Machines. This hilarious flick was one of the most well-enjoyed releases in 2020 and 2021, first releasing via Sony Pictures Releasing in 2020 as Connected, and then released in 2021 as The Mitchells vs. the Machines. It is a highly enjoyable movie, and you can easily stream it on popular platform Netflix.

The movie itself has gotten some pretty universal acclaim, praised for its wonderful combination of artistry, scripting, hilarity, humour, and inclusion of important modern topics. It also has been noted as having themes that step somewhat out of bounds with your typical kids film. While it will still have families rolling around laughing, we recommend this movie because it’s packed with interesting topics that your kids are sure to really think about.

Starring various famous voice actors such as Chrissy Teigen and John Legend as well as the likes of Olivia Colman, Maya Rudolph, and even NBA superstar Blake Griffin, this is the kind of event that catches the eye with wit, humour, and intellect.

The plot itself revolves around Katie Mitchell, a filmmaker based in Kentwood, Michigan. She leads a tempestuous life, often head-to-head in clashes with her father, Rich, who despises technology. The night before she leaves to go to film school in California, her laptop is broken over a fight involving a short film she mead, and there are fears they will never see eye-to-eye again.

In a bid to save his relationship with his daughter, Rich plans to take the Mitchell family on a cross-country road-trip to the college, giving him one last chance to bond with Katie. However, at the same time, tech genius Mark Bowman begins to create his new line of home robots to replace previous sensation PAL. PAL takes this poorly, and the story unfolds in a wild and hilarious tale that leaves plenty of moments where you’ll be wondering what actually happens next.

Most family comedies tend to lave the plot visible from a mile off, but this does a rather splendid job of avoiding that problem. Instead, the story retains a riveting edge as the plot itself deals with the kind of plots and storylines that could become very important to children of the next generation.

This is a heart-warming movie with a glorious payoff, and provides you and the family with the ideal opportunity to watch something that comes with a great message, a wonderful storyline, and no shortage of laughs throughout. So, if you are looking for something to watch with a big of glorious sweeties this weekend, why not try out The Mitchells vs. the Machines?
